Fun read-aloud with 5 and 8 year olds. Felt like horror but wasn't scary.

Harold the dog and Chester the cat have the perfect balanced family life until one day a small fluffy thing is brought home - a Bunny! Bunnicula was found during a movie screening of Dracula, so Mrs. Monroe thinks there’s no better name than Bunnicula. Chester is not convinced this is a normal rabbit. He sleeps all day, escapes at night, was left with a mysterious note, and does weird things to the veggies. Clearly he’s a vampire.
I never read Bunnicula as a kid, so I had a fun time reading it as an adult. I enjoyed the bickering between Harold and Chester, including Harold’s occasional lack of common sense. (I mean he is a dog, what do you expect?) I do wish Bunnicula made more of an appearance in the book because Harold and Chester were more of the main characters. Maybe he’s featured more in the sequels?

I'm just going to come out and say it. All my friends were totally into this book in second grade, and I totally couldn't finish it. I read almost every other book in the library. The other book I didn't finish was I am the Cheese.

Quick, fun read that gives the illusion of the creep factor for the younger crowd, but it just good, silly fun.

A very brief, silly, and entertaining kid's story about a vampire bunny. Definitely a fun one for kids and good one for adults too. The story was so short it didn't really feel like it concluded, but there are plenty more books in the series and reading through the first only took an hour.
