This book truly shows how life can knock your down, but if you are determined to reach your goal then you strive to do what you can to reach it. There may be hardships and pain on the way along with amazing accomplishments. This book has all of those and is the first in a series.

A young man in his 30s loses his wife, his company, and virtually everything of material importance in one tragedy. How should his spirit respond and hopefully recover? Here is a supremely easy to read novel of coping with unexpected grief and betrayal. A long walk from Seattle to Key West begins, to be followed along in subsequent books. Along the way he meets people who leave him with spiritual insights. While not an overtly Christian book, it definitely covers spiritual topics such as finding meaning and purpose for one's life and healing when life throws you a serious curve ball.

It reminded me of "The Five People You Meet in Heaven". A man loses everything including the will to live until he begins a journey by foot and encounters people that will inspire him. I really enjoyed it!

I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this book. I know these things: it ended, I felt inspired, and I’m looking forward to reading the next one.

I enjoy Evans' work. He writes books that you can devour in one afternoon, and they usually end on a warmer note. He does tend to put a spiritual touch on his tales, but if you don't consider yourself to be a spiritual person (as I don't), it's not so overwhelming that it's distracting.

"The Walk" definitely hit on some life lessons that inspired thought and reflection. Short but mighty. It contained one of my favorite quotes, one in which I first read in "Cutting for Stone" by Abraham Verghese, "Life...You love it forward, but understand it backward." Now that I've read "The Walk", I learned it is Kierkegaard that gets credit for it. I also felt it ended abruptly, which is understandable, since I see that it's one of a six part series. It's possible that my curiosity will get me to pick up #2....
