i’ll be straight up i didn’t like this book for like 30% of it but then something changed and i went full 180. tbh i thought this was going to be a commentary on a woman being violently obsessed with an awful guy but it turned into a commentary on the complexities of human nature and self-worth. like what in the actual. and there were so many banger lines that blew my mind so much that i kind of had to sit with it for a second. anyways sorry megan nolan my bad

  • cathartic and holding up a mirror in the ways I was looking for
  • engaging in the ways she was also so different from me
  • I personally just wanted more sex throughout not just so intensely at the end, and more time in the animal overwhelm of the desperate moments rather than reflecting on them afterwards
  • Unnecessary occasional 2nd person perspective
  • Cassidy do u want to borrow my copy

as much as you’d like to dislike the protagonist, i can say that i related to her in many uncomfortable ways as a twenty something experiencing a toxic relationship in my past.

Such a powerful adventure through the main character’s psyche and relationships. At some points relatable and at some very disturbing and sad

It was so easy to flip through this book and really feel like I committed a break and entry into the unnamed female narrator's head. The main character is honest and undoubtedly flawed.
Acts of Desperation is well written, I can't argue against that. But it often feels like a disproportionate melancholic fever dream all strung out. The ending feels like a slight moment of clarity that contrasts the book's overall somber tone.

Tbh I fought fight tooth and nail to get past all the gritty parts of this book and breathed a sigh of relief once it was all done.
