Even though I wasn't a huge fan of the resolution, this book still gets 4 stars because it surprised and delighted me the whole way through.  I absolutely loved the characters, especially the Dog Woman and her experience of being perceived as simultaneously grotesque, maternal, mythical, and as an average member of the community.  It's heartwarming, hilarious, and an interesting look at the 1640s-70s in London, among other times and places.  There are a few moments where Winterson's gender essentialist politics show through, but the book largely explores fluidity in time, space, and identity, with a focus on love.  The kind of book that you want to reread the second you finish it.
