It's hard to move on after what Griffith did. To read the series and jump forward in time like that is rough when he did such awful things in the previou volume.
Also I wonder who the soldiers for the church are...

And just like that, we're back in the saddle with the black swordsman and Puck! Boy did I miss Puck, the little scamp.
This installment is a bit rougher both for being a transition between what may well be the most horrifying low point of the comic, and a return to the more action/adventure/horror/comedy vibe that we started out with. We've spent a *long* time in the Golden Age, such that the original few arcs kind of seem like a hazy dream by comparison.
However, Berserk still has the juice: the fights are rad, the art is great, and the story remains thrilling. One thing that the Golden Age arc brought that the original black swordsman arcs kinda lacked was this complicated series of interlocking symbols, themes, and foreshadowing that allowed the punches of the Eclipse to land as hard as they did. We aren't far enough into the Conviction Arc to see if it can pull off the same, but I'm really hoping so!

Back in the present with Guts, a pretty long side arc about a missing girl and strange elvish creatures takes up the volume. Some cool action, not much else going on. At the end there’s an interesting extra in the way of an initial submission of Berserk that’s fun, though not canonical.
