This book is fabulous. Well written, suspenseful and creepy. Definitely recommend!

It was a page-turner through most of the book but the ending felt tacked on as a tidy wrap-up and didn't connect to the narrative at all.

The premise of this story seemed interesting. It had promise, so it really should have been. Unfortunately, it was sooo boring. It took me so long to get through this, even with skimming through all the unnecessary parts about Thora's children and snoozefest life. The unraveling of the events on the yacht was remotely interesting, but it dragged on -- and then in the end, suddenly Thora knows nearly everything that supposedly happened, even though she's a lawyer and not a detective, and didn't really seem to be doing anything all that significant in the middle to actually uncover all these 'facts'. Huh, what? The story just didn't add up, and in the end I wasn't left with a feeling of satisfaction or conclusion. I don't think I'll be reading anything else by this author.

It’s taken me a couple of weeks to read this, because it’s not my usual thing - it’s a reading group book. However, I’m mostly glad I read it. The two settings are Portugal and Iceland, (as well as the Atlantic) and by chance I’ve been to both those countries in the last six months, so I was pleased to be reminded of the cobbled streets so famous in Portugal and the darkly cruel sense of humour of the Icelandic people, as well as the frigid climate.
The story is set on a luxury yacht, and who doesn’t covet a holiday on a luxury yacht? Well, after reading this book, you might think again. There are a series of macabre incidents that made me shiver, and I did enjoy the book overall.
What I didn’t enjoy was when Thóra gives her own cat a kick because her daughter says it’s boring. That was horrible. Okay it’s a “gentle kick”; it still made me hate her, and want to have a word with the author.

This book gave me chills and kept me guessing all the way til the end. It was reminiscent of the campy horror movie "Ghost Ship" so that aspect appealed to me as did the mystery elements.
A luxury liner crashes into port and when the police get on board they discover that there is no one on board. All 7 passengers, three crew members and a family, have vanished into thin air. A lawyer starts working with the police to get to the bottom of it, but things keep getting more confusing and bodies start showing up. What happened? Named the best Scandinavian Crime Novel of the Year, this book was a real treat, I couldn't put it down!
