Have you ever had a blind date with a book? Unlike the few blind dates I’ve been on, this book was a wonderful surprise! From the first I was intrigued by the down to Earth, fun Josie, her cute brothers, and Ches, the gorgeous, upscale, serious attorney. It’s a grumpy/sunshine, forbidden romance with endearing characters & a touch of faith that was really hard to put down. I’m excited to read more by Hope Toler Dougherty.
Josie’s a vibrant, fun, confident college history instructor working to obtain a grant for the library she adores & volunteers for. When the handsome attorney whose firm is issuing the grant, offers to help her, she’s intrigued by the man who wouldn’t give her the time of day when she first met him over the summer. But, she’s not about to get involved with another ambitious man who’ll break her heart.
From the start, Ches is attracted to the breath of fresh air that is Josie, but his wealthy family has other plans for his future. They expect him to make partner for the prestigious law firm he works for and marry the boss’s high maintenance daughter. As Ches gets to know Josie and the fun-loving, warm family she comes from, he sees what true happiness looks like. As he begins to loosen up, rediscover his faith, and enjoy life more, the stress and demanding expectations of his parents contrast with what he truly wants. But, will he have the strength to forge his own path?
I loved the grumpy/sunshine vibes of Josie’s and Ches’ relationship. The banter and friendly competitions between them were so much fun. I loved Josie’s sweet tooth and her spunk. With three older brothers, she’s learned to hold her own. My heart went out to Ches. His parents were just awful and his “girlfriend” is even worse. I loved his Uncle Jack & Aunt Heidi who truly supported him. I loved watching Ches’ transformation throughout the story and his learning to “play the music he likes.” Josie’s brothers are adorable and I’m hoping to read their stories.
Highly recommend to Christian romance and chick lit fans! I’m so grateful for the opportunity I had to take a chance on a new to me author. I’ll definitely be reading more of her books. Thanks to JustRead Tours for facilitating the blind date with a book! All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
