Thank you to Little, Brown Book Group Uk, Orbit and Netgalley for the review copy in exchange for an honest review. This does not change my opinion in anyway.

TW/CW: Rape Mentioned | Suicide Mentioned | Blood | Gore | Torture

How do you review a book like Jade Legacy? When it is the conclusion to such an epic series? When it leaves behind the legacy of the Kauls? When it spans so much time? Honestly, you don't. You just gush.

Fonda Lee has written an absolute gem of a fantasy series that will withstand the test of time for sure because it continues to bring the themes forward that we are drawn to. Family, Loyalty, Change, Faith, Collonialism. But also being able to be your own person in a family that stands so tall and proud for its values and history.

There were twists and turns. Characters that returned (could have done without Bero), characters that grew, characters that left, and characters that dies. I felt along their journey with each of them. Especially one death absolutely killed me. I am still crying on the inside over him. He deserved so much more than he got.

I think the only downside about this book is that it spans so many years. I understand why. But it sometimes left me still standing in the mess of the previous year while we were already heading into the next arc a few years later. I think that does tell you what this book does to your emotions.

All in all this review is just here to tell you to pick up the whole of the Green Bone Saga now. You don't have to wait between books. You can get your heart torn out all at once while reading these 3 books back to back. And you won't even want it back.

Great trilogy ender! I had trouble with the time jumps in Jade War, constantly surprised that a couple of months or years had apparently passed between chapters. In Jade Legacy, it still took me some time to get my bearings when big jumps happened, but at least they're clearly labeled so I didn't have to guess or do mental math. πŸ˜… Plus, it was a great way to signal
the beginning of Niko's reign as Pillar.
Very interesting how in Jade City we focused on a specific time period, but as the series went on, the years seemed to go by quicker, giving us a broader sense of how the clans impact these characters for a lifetime.

I hope I'm not alone in actually liking Bero in this book. πŸ˜† He's a great narrative tool, honestly, always getting embroiled in clan business one way or another but never truly belonging anywhere. His life was so pathetic and lonely, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Sue me!
I can't believe we started and ended the series with Bero. The epitome of a survivor, haha.
I wish we got to see more of Ayt Mada throughout the series! She was always the most intriguing character for me. I love how Fonda Lee handled the tension between her and Shae, and the culmination of her decades-long rivalry with Hilo.

One more thing: obviously the story is centered on No Peak, but I wish we got to know the clanless "rebels" as more than disillusioned troublemakers. I understand it may have been beyond the scope of the book, but it would've been so interesting to delve deeper into their experiences, legitimate concerns, hopes for a future where the masses don't bow to the powerful, etc... I love the Kauls as a reader, but if I were a citizen in Kekon, I suspect I would have sympathized with the clanless. Can the system truly be reformed enough to justify its existence? I wish we had that conversation.
The rebellion fizzling out was disappointing, though perhaps realistic. Not gonna lie, that bit about Niko being the "Pillar of Kekon" disturbed me a little bit.

I can't believe this series is over. After so many years of reading these books, it's over. And what a satisfying conclusion.

I loved seeing how things changed over the years, especially with the kids. As someone who grew up in the midst of war and terrorism, I completely understood the children's perspectives and responses as they grew older.

It was a beautiful, sweeping conclusion to these books. I'm glad I read them.

Actually I feel like it's not enough to give it 5 stars. It's 100/5 for me.

I never would have thought that I'd be greatly invested in a book filled with clans and gangsters with the interwoven dynamics of violence, politics, and familial turmoil. When I first came upon Jade City, I had a hard time getting invested in the story since the genre isn't really my cup of tea. But The Green Bone Saga completely changed that, especially with the exceptional writing, characterization, and world-building of Miss Fonda Lee.

Jade Legacy is an epic, mind-blowing conclusion to the GBS series. I couldn't put it down, I read every chapter with bated breath. I laughed, screamed, cried, and most of all felt kinship with the characters that accompanied me over the course of three books. I could not point out any flaw in this book (maybe it’s just me being biased) but it's just so well executed for me. Every scheme, every decision, every hatred from the characters were so well-founded; you can really understand why they did what they did.

Thank you very much for crafting such a well-rounded, gripping, and emotional book Miss Lee. It reminds me of the importance of family; how it is not only determined by blood relations, but also found in people we've bonded over the years. This book is truly a LEGACY that will live on!
