I loved the first two books in this series, but this one unfortunately disappointed me. The massive time skips made it feel like reading a summary a lot of the time, and the book's length felt unnecessary - a lot of things happened that didn't really seem to be that important and a lot of time was wasted restating the themes in case we missed them. A lot of the characters I liked in the earlier books (especially Shae and Wen) felt diminished, relegated into uninteresting roles and this book seemed way more invested in upholding the clan structure and nuclear family as solely positive forces than the previous books.

The first 2 books were ok. 3-4 stars. By the time I got to the third book I found that I just stopped caring about ANY of the characters. The kaul family is just as bad as the ayt family. They just aren't good people. I am curious enough that I will look around for play-by-play spoilers but it just feels like rehashing the other books. Why can't the Kaul family have a "good" family member that isn't blood thirsty. At the beginning of the series I had hopes for Shae because she was smart enough to remove herself from a toxic family but she came right back with little hesitation. I could rant on and on but I know I am very much in the minority so rant over.

I can’t believe I finally finished this trilogy. It’s one that will definitely sit with me for a long time because I love books that make the reader question what it means to be a good or bad person. For about a week, I’ve lived inside this book and felt a roller coaster of emotions. The Kaul’s and all of the characters in these books are extremely flawed but Lee portrayed each person with such complexities, individuality, and empathy that I felt connected to them. I desperately want to see this trilogy as a film series or streaming show.

Truly an epic. A fitting ending to the trilogy. Fonda Lee has done a masterful job bringing readers on this journey and wraps everything up here in a way that feels true to the story.

Fonda Lee has written some of the most unlikeable and flawed characters in this series... yet I love them all and take everything that happens to the Kaul family personally. The world that Lee created is so well fleshed out and unique and unlike anything, I've ever read. This finale was heartbreaking, infuriating, and exactly what it needed to be. Perfection! Basically, I'm a super fan of the Green Bone saga and truly think it will be my favorite series for years to come.
