A great start to the series. This book had me HOOKED from the start, full of mystery, humour and characters that pull on your heart strings whilst giving you anxiety. I LOVE that it has a map and hope to see the world building be more there in the next few books. That being said you get a full understanding of the fearmancer societal workings and hierarchy. My main criticism is lack of trigger warnings. There is a fair amount of Blood/Gore in this book and a heads up would have helped.
Graphic: Death, Gore, Violence, Blood, and Death of parent
Moderate: Alcoholism and Alcohol
Minor: Ableism

At least these guys are more tolerable than the Zodiac Academy ones.

Great first book in the series. Rory was a lost heir and completely had her world turned upside down. The Scions have it out for her and has her work cut out for her to prove herself. This was a fun read and i look forward to see how things go throughout this series

It was fine. I knew it was a bully romance and was still annoyed about it, particularly when the one guy completely screwed her over. I was also distressed, from start to finish, how quickly she got over/how little emotion was showed about her dead parents?? I feel like if I saw my parents brutally murdered and was then kidnapped I wouldn't be casually attending class the next day, but to each their own I guess.
That said...I actually really liked the FMC. She was written a little differently than most academy-level FMCs, in that she was aware that all her eventual (I assume) love interests were the hottest of the hot, but with one exception she maintained her hatred of them and focused on her mission. You go Glen Coco.
Super quick read. I'm tempted to start the second, too.

2 ⭐️ the bully trope really doesn’t do it for me and I really need to stop reading books with this in it

If you thought high school was bad try this university. Talk about bullies and a school that promotes it. Rory’s whole life was a lie and now they all expect her to change to their standards. But she won’t break and will be the one to take a stand. Rory is a very interesting character that is morally very strong. Her heart might get shattered but damn she keeps on going. I really hope she starts to put the four main bullies in their place and one young woman that really needs smacked around too.

hooked!
Interesting characters. Story immediately hooks you. The sass and angst. The push and pull draws you in. Great world building.
