Harrowing, but not hard to get through (as the reader). Was really disappointed that
one of the brothers still partakes in the polygamist life after all of that.
To me, the author is too understanding of her mother. I get that she was a victim, too, but she royally fucked up.

This is a phenomenal memoir, everything about her story, I was gasping in horror every chapter with the things she endured. A must read.

When I started the book I was shocked, certainly remained shocked and moved to so much heartache and emotion as I learned the childhood of Ruthie and her siblings. I highly recommend reading it. To learn more about mormanism, the practice of polygamy, and to see the heartaches that accompany them.
