Only 48 minutes on audio. The basic premise is that you cannot just deny an affection; you have to replace it with a stronger love. Thus the only way to supplant the love of the world with the love of God is to realize that He is a far more worthy and rewarding love.

This book reminded me a lot about the book I had just finished on habits. Satan does a great job of disguising sin as habits and makes it harder for us to stop them. This book goes into how that can affect our relationship with God.

This is s sermon by Thomas Chalmers and a little wordy for modern readers. The main premise is how to fulfill the command to love not the world. Chalmers rightly asserts that we cannot simply expel love for the world but rather it must be replaced by a new and greater love.

The point is sound and one every Christian should consider.

In our hearts is the throne in which we put the object of our desires and worship. Chalmers helped me see that not only the setting of myself against sin could achieve that very goal but the valuing of Christ as supremely valuable above and beyond this perishing world that will change me. This sermon was eye opening and articulates God’s plan for us to see Him, through the gospel work of Christ, as the only lord worth sitting in the throne of the heart.
