Overall a good book but hard to read when someone close to you is currently battling cancer. Once I realized what was happening in the book, it was too late and I just had to finish it. Good thing I was listening to audio, not reading, because I would not have been able to read for all the tears at some points. Fairly predictable but some sweet love stories intertwined.
Jane Green caught me off guard with this one! I was expecting her usual light chick lit fare...and sobbed through the second half of the book!!! A good read...just a little sad.
I never get tired of Jane Green's books. This one was no exception! A sad, poignant story of illness, family strength, and people coming together.
It was fine. Depressing, and I only mildly cared about the characters. Kind of a bummer from an author I like so much. I also feel a little bit bad saying anything remotely negative since it was inspired by her sister.
Loved this book. The best Jane Green novel in years. Right up there with my favorite, Bookends.
To be completely honest, it was very difficult to get into this book at first. The beginning jumps around a bit too much to really capture my attention from the start. However, after about a hundred pages I couldn't put it down. I find the big picture of the story to be utterly overwhelming and absolutely heart-warming. The unconditional love that Callie has for each member of her family, blood related or extended to close friendships, and friends is amazing. The love and caring that her family has for her, wherever she is and wherever they are, is breathtaking. I hate that some of the things that happened had to happen, but those are the sad and unfortunate facts of life sometimes.
All in all, I adored this book and the stories of Callie, Reece, Eliza, Jack, Steffi, Mason, Lila, Ed, Carl, Walter, Honor and the other characters.
As a side note, my copy of Promises to Keep seems to have an astonishing amount of grammatical and spelling errors... Anyone else find that as well?

Jane Green’s Promises to Keep is the story of Callie Perry, a successful family photographer in upstate New York. Callie’s younger sister Steffi is a free-spirited city girl who has yet to find her way. To complete the trio is Lila, Callie’s best friend who has finally found love (and unfortunately her love has a nightmare of an ex). The heart of the story comes when Callie is given a brutal diagnosis and must come to terms with the finality of life. This is a novel about surviving, about love and friendship and the enduring power of the human spirit. Promises to Keep is an emotional journey that is well worth the trip. It will give readers a renewed appreciation for the life we live, the friends we make, and the promises we keep. It is a truly wonderful story.
The story itself was decent, but I can't get past grammatical errors, hence the 2 rating. Without those? 3.5 stars.
