I liked this book, but it still wasn't as good as Tallstar's revenge in my opinion. 

I loved Hawkwing as a protagonist and I so wish that he becomes a leader one day, because he deserves it. The journey part was okay though it did get a little bit repetitive here and there. 

My main problem with this book is that it has so many death - and not just greencaugh or whitecaugh deaths- it has pretty violent deaths too. And most of the cats seem to just skim over them - maybe remember them once or twice but the dead are barely even mentioned. Duskpaw is the only one that gets anything really, because the book starts with his death and it affecting Hawkwing and Sharpclaw and their relationship. Then Billystorm dies and Leafstar is sad for a while and mentioning his name is a sore spot, but then he is never mentioned again for the rest of the book - aside from Hawkwing thinking about his death once - which is a shame because he was such an important character in Skyclan's destiny. Then Bouncefire dies a pretty violent way and nobody is even remotely upset or mentions him again aside from Hawkwing being horrified when he sees him die and that's that. Same with Patchfoot- another bellowed old character- same with any Sharpclaw, he dies in a battle, Hawkwing and Cherrytail are a bit upset but then he is never mentioned again - it's like these deaths are here just to show that Starclan is testing the clan cats and just because of a shock value and so that not all of them make it to the new camp. They don't seem to have any meaning whatsoever aside from Duskpaw. 

I also hated that Hawkwing never made up with his father before he died- they have this extremely rocky and shaky relationship throughout the beginning of the book but it never gets resolved because Sharpclaw dies and the ending is just …. lacking. I wish that the book ended with them finally reaching their new home. 

I did love Darktail as a villain though- he wasn't just evil - I loved that we are led to believe that he is a good character for so long, it made the revelation that he is the bad guy so satisfying, and I loved the relationship between Pebbleshine and Hawkwing so much, and I loved how great of a foster father he was to Plumwillow's kits. He is a good character and I can't wait to see more of him. And I still hope that he gets to become a leader one day, because he'd be a great one.

Man, I have such a soft spot for skyclan, the old super editions were some of my favorites, but this one felt a little rough. I didn't like many of the newer characters near the beginning that much and as bad thing after bad thing kept happening it started to wear on me a bit too much, but the characters grew on me which helped. Very curious to see where this ends up tying in with the main arcs, though!

I honestly had so much hopes for this book, I’ve heard good things about it, and heard how sad it was. So I was ready to get too connected to these characters and be sad whenever someone died… and when the book ended I felt nothing but disappointment.

Leafstar acts out of character the whole book, SkyClan’s Destiny is part of her learning to be more in charge and well, more like a leader. But here we see nothing of that Leafstar, she changes character all the time. She doesn’t do anything when Sharpclaw gets unfairly angry at Hawkwing and then punished HAWKWING when she gets emotional. And the SkyClan’s destiny Leafstar would’ve seen something was up with

Darktail

right away. 

And let’s talk about the character development… what character development? Hawkwing had some, yes, but everyone else? They had none. The book was so fast paced that you didn’t get to connect with any of the characters.

This is a problem as this book contains much death, but how are we supposed to feel anything when we don’t know the characters? 
“Oh no Honeytail is dead! :(“
Okay? Why should I care when she never spoke and was never even mentioned before this?

Also Duskpaw dies in chapter 1, and then Hawkwing thinks about him all the time for half of the book. Why should we care? ONE CHAPTER. He was alive for ONE. CHAPTER. And only had, like, 2 or 3 lines.

Also the thing with Darktail makes no sense? Hawkwing figures out that Darktail is up to something almost immediately, he brings forth proof, and… Leafstar ignores this obvious evidence and punishes Hawkwing for having genuine concern over his Clan’s safety? And then HAWKWING changes his mind on Darktail for no real reason and becomes besties with him, and even when he SEES Darktail doing suspicious stuff he dismisses it and doesn’t share with anyone, and continues to be besties. That whole thing was written so badly, to be honest. It would’ve been better if he was never suspicious of Darktail from the beginning, and when he notices sus stuff, SkyClan is invaded before he can ask anything.

The Pebbleshine x Hawkwing romance was way too rushed, I think was just 3 or 4 chapters that Hawkwing went from hating Pebblepaw to being in love with her. Then after Pebbleshine is made a warrior they talk a few times for a few chapters without confessing or anything like that, and then suddenly their mates and Pebbleshine is expecting kits?

The only good things with this book are:
     1. Curlypaw - even though I already knew she was going to leave, it still made me sad when it happened. She is one of the better characters in this book
     2. Plumwillow - I liked the bond she and Hawkwing got, and how Hawkwing was like a father to the kits. I would’ve preferred if Sandynose didn’t come back and Plumwillow and Hawkwing got together.

So in my opinion it was a pretty disappointing book

He is so incredible from the start I read it. He have made spinach suffering and how big decision he made for the clan.
