I personally enjoy Alice's Adventures in wlWonderland a lot more than Through the Looking Glass, but I definitely still think that it is enjoyable. Not really character development in my opinion, which it being written in the time doesn't absolve it of having any but It's more of a following along a journey. You're just following along this gross journey of the wacky and wild in my opinion..

I just wrote a big review and accidentally deleted it. Sigh.
This was a good book. I definitely enjoyed it! But I don't think it really stood up to the first Alice. This nonsense book seemed a little more nonsensical, with less rhyme or reason behind it. The sense that I think I was supposed make out of it came to me later than it should have; the kittens = the queens? Whoops! I did really enjoy the inclusion of all the poetry in this volume, however, and I was also surprised at the inclusion of so much iconic Alice canon such as Tweedledum and Tweedledee as well as The Jabberwocky.
I would recommend this book if for no other reason than what an easy read it was, even if you're worried you might not like it - I read it start to finish cover to cover. It was definitely cute and worth reading.

This is the first chapter book I read. It made me fall in love with books and reading. I've read it in adulthood and love it the same way I did when I was a little girl doing the summer reading program at the local library for the first time.

I read this classic aloud with my 6yo - what a zany ride trying to explain what was happening! I think he enjoyed the chess metaphors more than I!

I'd read Alice in Wonderland when I was little and then again recently due to a course I'm taking, but I read Through the Looking Glass only now for the first time. Adventures in Wonderland truly is an amazing book, but I must admit I didn't find Through the Looking Glass half as fascinating. I think it's uneven -parts of it are really amazing, while other parts are rather boring. I remember reading Paul Auster's "New York Trilogy" a few years back and how he kept referring to this book and Humpty Dumpty and how he represents language and I do believe reading Through the Looking Glass having this knowledge helped me appreciate it better; however, overall, I find Adventures in Wonderland a much better book.
