NYT Notable Books 2023: 46/100

At first this book reminded me a lot of Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney's The Nest in that it was about a group of tightly-knit, rich siblings that weren't particularly nice people. However, Jackson did end up with a deeper book than that, with fleshed out characters who wound up having redeeming qualities. The first half was frustrating to read at points, but the second half was much better and made the both worth reading.

I read this book for my sociology class, and I'm very glad I did because I likely would never have discovered it otherwise. It is a very interesting commentary on wealth and class while also being very interesting to read and having compelling (although not always loveable) characters. I really like how it explored the concept of family relationships and generational divides. I'm definitely excited to analyze it using a more sociological bent. I really enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes stories about rich-people shenanigans or dysfunctional families.

I *hated* the snobby, rich Stockton family at first. I wouldn’t call their character development very transformative and the “happy ending” was kind of a bare minimum effort. However, it was a quick, easy, and left me wanting to know more about how the family grows and each character develops

This was a fun family adventure. I would recommend this for someone wanting to get swept up into family drama with rich imagery.
