Now that’s a haunted house story! Very bleak, no room for other feelings or emotions in this one other than fear.

The perfect haunted house story.
I loved that there was always something creepy going on and the story never stalled or became boring. The family’s perspectives felt authentic and well written. I was emotionally invested in each moment and the end broke my heart.
I’ve discovered Bentley can write some graphic scenes (see cactus birth in The Town), but it wasn’t too overwhelming in this book.
I read this while backwoods camping and was seriously freaked out, even though the story had nothing to do with camping or the forest haha. Bentley just writes a chilling tale that gave me goosebumps no matter where I was.

I dunno, I don't have much to say about this one. It's a good haunted house story

A solid haunted house story. An odd sexual tone and not quite as spooky as I was hoping for but ultimately not a bad ghostie story. I did like the writing (though that could have been the audio book narrator) and the characters were likeable if bland. Maybe that's how I'd describe this, a likeable scary story but a bit bland in the end.
Oh, I did like the little interludes in the past. Those were an unexpected detour that added a lot of enjoyment for me. The ending was also well done and left me content.

This book at the beginning had SO much potential and was so good at first...
But then I kept reading
Random poorly written sex scenes, a weak story line that never came together, the women being lesser, and *****TW***** rape scenes... are the reasons why I am rating this book so poorly
I had to force myself to to finsh this book
