It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. Life is a bunch of problems waiting to be solved. It takes patience to unravel them.

The writing style mirrored Sam's experiences. Brief, non-answers. She struggled, she matured, she learned, she persevered.

Coming-of-age novel. The story is told from Sam's perspective from age 7 to 19. It uses her rock climbing as a metaphor. The story is sad, in that it shows how people can get stuck with their life, unable to see ways to change. It shows how people can hurt. However, Sam is strong and the ending is good.

3.5 stars. The style is very straightforward and simple. However, Goodman has a knack for capturing what it feels like to be growing up and all of the confusing emotions that go with it.
