This book was assigned to my son for kindergarten homework. His copy is a book from the school library that was marked "discarded" because it is "obsolete."
I wondered why, but when I read it, I saw that both the dogs and the young children are allowed to play in their neighborhood without direct adult supervision. Sadly, that does seem to be something that is now "obsolete."

Maybe silly to include in my reading challenge but this might be the earliest book I can recall reading and it met the specific requirements for a 2024 challenge. And I got to read it with my 2 & 3 year old granddaughters yesterday who practiced whistling with limited success along with Peter!

For: readers wanting a playful book about learning to whistle and playing with one's pup.
Possible red flags: unrealistic expectations for suddenly being able to whistle (at least for some).

This is probably my second favorite book in the series.

I have to admit, my whistling as a kid drove my parents - quite reasonably - insane. So I rather like this book, and find one of the ending lines nigh unbelievable.

Still lots of fun, and excellent art.
