I don't think I read this as a child so even without nostalgia it was still really good. Dog characters don't usually do it for me, but the other cast of characters were awesome. I wish Sean Baker would direct a movie adaptation of this.

One of the only books I come back to. I love to read this one to my kids. It’s a beautiful book that’s perfect to me.

I picked this book up in my sixth grade English class, and while I can't remember too much (the things I remember is only because of the movie), I think I actually really enjoyed this book. It was during the time my interest in books piqued and I was drawn into reading animal-related books. Because of Winn-Dixie was a nice book in my early memory.

I need something to brighten my soul after Girls Burn Brighter and this was the ticket!
I had read this book as a child and loved it SO much I named my first dog Dixie. Reading it 20+ years later brought so much joy. I can see how I related to India Opal. A fun quick read- the audiobook is done well too. Worth checking out for a drive with kids!

Similar story line to "The Secret Life of Bees" but certainly not as depressing.

I read this book every summer. Reminds me to practice listening to people's stories who look different from mine.

Why did I wait to read this book for so long. So so good and sweet and made me tear up. The audio book is amazing, narrator was so perfect!! Can’t wait to recommend this book to students!

I don’t quite know what to say about this book except I loved it and loved reading it to my girls. We laughed out loud a lot and I cried too. Beautifully written and definitely a classic. When I asked “what do you want to remember about this book”, my eldest answered “well, I learned you can’t always tell what people are like by looking at them. They might have sadness you don’t see”. What a good and beautiful piece of children’s lit!
