This was fine, but: it's oddly paced.

I had a very tough time getting through this book. It's my first Dean Koontz and I'm definitely disappointed. The storyline is fine, kind of interesting, but the language is waaaay too flowery. It's like he's trying too hard to make this serious literature.

Too political for my taste, with a big side helping of hero worship. No thanks.

This book just pretty much sums up my feelings about Koontz's work; an irresistable premise, likeable characters, and a lot of stuff happening... but that's pretty much it. As far as a pulpy good reads goes, 'The Good Guy' is pretty perfect, but it leaves you with the feeling that you've just wasted a small part of your time.  It's hard to sound like enjoyed it, but in actuality I really did get a kick out of this book. Basicaly, its a good book if you're looking for a fun quick read.

I really liked the premise of this book. A guy Tim having a drink at a bar is mistaken for an assassin taking in a new job, and accepts the money. Tim finds the target to save her from the assassin, and it makes for a pretty good story. Would give it a 9 of 10 stars. Makes me want to read more Dean Koontz.

In my opinion, Koontz can do no wrong. The man is one of the most solid storytellers out there. He knows how to spin an engaging and captivating tale, he's eloquent and literary without being pompous, and he creates characters that you love and hate. He's brilliant. I'd give ten stars if I could.

Koontz is an expert craftsman of prose. He creates here a completely vile character that equally repulses and fascinates the reader, a hired assassin wholly without conscience. He slowly peels back the layers of his characters and reveals their secrets with relish, keeping the reader fully engaged from start to finish.

The villain gave me chills. He was well written. Loved the story. Loved the magic that lies in the writing of Dean Koontz.

The beginning was somewhat a struggle for me. I takes some time to be soaked in the story and to fully understand the players and the game. But once in the story, it's hard to get out of it.

Good story. On the other hand, I absolutely hate the portrayal of one character as insanely cruel with no human empathy. I don't understand the need to describe such a monster in such extreme detail that it moves me (and I presume others) to skip those scenes throughout the book.
