beautiful concept and overall atmosphere, but at times too rich even for me. i found myself going back and forth over things a lot. It kind of reminded me of the feeling of the week between christmas and new years - lovely, indulgent, but hard to keep track of and a shade overwhelming

super racist at times, but otherwise really funny and enjoyable to read, petered out in ch. 6 though idk what that was.

I think Virginia Woolf is one of the real masters of lit and I want to reread this short book sometime soon to get a better grip on it. Rather subversive too with the gender stuff
