Beth Andrews has yet to disappoint me. Her books, as far as I read, have no billionaires, CEOs or heroes behaving like alpha-holes. Her books are about regular people, dealing with some real life issues. This particular series has a murder mystery which I hope gets solved by the third book. The three Sullivan sisters are the main characters. This book is about Layne, the oldest of the Sullivan sisters and Ross, Chief of the Police force. Both control freaks, both with a heart of gold. That the 'I love yous' were said rather fast after having sex just once was kind of a downer and the reason for my 3 stars. Would have liked a bit more of time developing their relationship. Enjoyed reading the story though and I am really looking forward, hoping that Jess (Ross' niece) gets either a book or an appearance in later books because I want to know whether or not she finds the HEA she deserves.
Good book. Layne is having a real problem working with Ross. She really wanted the Chief's job, but he had gotten it instead. Ross is new to town and doesn't know all the people and their backgrounds the way she does, but he is very good at what he does. When Layne's mom's remains are found, she finds herself working very closely with Ross and fighting an attraction to him. Ross came to Mystic Point to get his niece out of Boston and try to give her a fresh start. What he finds is that she appears to be even more out of control. Then he adds in a smart mouthed coworker who he is attracted to and his life seems to be crazier. I could see how he was having trouble with his niece, as he appeared to have no idea how to deal with a teenager. I liked the way that Layne would try to help out with her, and get Ross to see where he was going wrong. I also enjoyed the way that Ross was also fighting the attraction. Both of them had to face their demons at the end, and I enjoyed seeing the process. We still don't know who killed Valerie Sullivan - I suspect that will come in the last book.
