I feel like I need to go back to the beginning and read it all again now that I know how it ends... what a fascinating collection of interwoven short stories. It really left me guessing how they were all connected until the second to last story...

I would be up for reading this again at some point in the future as the storytelling was so intricate.

Could have done without the fat phobia and constant body shaming of women though. Unfortunately it reeked of that particular brand of internalised misogyny, middle aged women seem to display so well.

Worth noting that I don’t like short stories very much, so this is quite a high score comparatively. Having said that, I would have scored this higher if it didn’t keep making inappropriately fatphobic jokes. Not sure why every story had to reference the weight of a character in a nasty way, but it got really tiresome.

I really enjoyed the style, it was very British, like hitchhikers guide to the galaxy absurdism. It was fun to identify the cross over characters in each story, and follow the loose thread throughout. I really enjoyed how the author would suddenly subvert expectations or twist the readers assumptions. I am very torn because if Kate Atkinson has written full length books I am sure I would really enjoy them, but I don’t think I would make it through a whole novel with those fatphobic digs.

The audiobook performance was top tier.
