“All of his internal organs were simply gone, except for the intestines. They had been set aside, neatly coiled up like they were extra computer cables.”

okay so this was the only christmas horror i could find at short notice (available on kindle unlimited) but uhhh, not a fan of this one! the writing felt a little juvenile, like a teenager had written it (and i don’t mean it in a YA way, but it genuinely reminds me of how i used to write when i was 15 lol). it was very creative, but also very tell but no show. it was, however, appropriately gross and descriptive at times and i appreciated that 🙏🏼

the visitor’s POV was so cool, but i’m actually unsure why this was so hyped on bookstagram. it’s fast-paced and fun, but the characters are just eh (the only two of substance - that i liked - were killed off straight up?) and it almost feels like a Predator fanfic? i’m super into Predator, so i did like this aspect of it!

i didn’t hate this novella! i just didn’t love it!

i gave this book a low rating not because it was bad but it was just so short i couldn't connect to the story at all like the beginning is good the characters get introduced, the setting is established etc but then the whole action bit felt so rushed especially the end. also fun fact i didn't know this had a sci-fi element i thought "the visitor" was going to be a normal serial killer so i was shocked when i read it was an alien. ( i think i could have liked it better if it was a serial killer becuse the whole "an alien comes to the earth to learn about humans so it hunts them with high technology" thing is overused and not fit for a short story in my opinion) in addition i didn't noticed any spelling errors or the "bad" sentence structure and punctuation others say it had so i can't comment on that. overall it was an ok read.

I loved this story. Thoroughly creeped me out and glad I read it over Halloween period than Christmas! Only reason I gave it 4.5 stars is because I wanted more.

The Visitor by Sergio Gomez was advertised for me as a suggested read and I purchased it immediately based off the cover art. Once I got it and realized it was an indie author, I was even more stoked. I don’t know why but I’m apparently really attached to holiday horror reads this year (because I have even more). Holiday cheer? Holiday fear?

This novella takes place during a terrible snowstorm on Christmas Day. What starts as a possible misfortune-to-celebration story turns dark before you know it. One of my favorite things about the story is the otherworldly scifi feel from this particular visit…I won’t say more, you’ll have to read it for yourself, but this holiday horror is a wonderful, bloody Christmasy adventure. A quick, easy read to add to the collection.

What I loved
The fact that it was short, gory and had a sci-fi element that I haven't really had a chance to explore in horror.  But I definitely want to! This was an extremely fast paced story, and while I liked the characters, when the bad things started to happen, all I cared about, really, was the doggo.
