There was a lot I liked about this book; it was definitely engaging. Ultimately, though, I just felt like it tried to do too much, too many threads.
(my own side note—as someone who has vitiligo [quite a bit of it] I repeatedly internally lol’ed/rolled my eyes at the leprosy-esque way it’s written about in this book!)

I rarely give out 1 star ratings, but I couldn’t connect with this in any way. The action with the home invasion started immediately and I never was able to connect with the characters. It’s just hard to care what happens to the characters if they don’t feel fleshed out or believable, and it didn’t help that the characters weren’t given names. I became more interested in the second half but then gaslighting was involved, which completely turned me off. Due to the gaslighting, the twist just left a bad taste in my mouth. I could kind of see what the author was trying to do but I don’t think it was executed well or in an impactful manner. Sadly this was not for me.

This book actually creeped me out which doesn't happen often. I like listening to thriller books/true crime podcasts while trying to fall asleep. I thought this one sounded good and borrowed it, it actually creeped me out so much I wasn't able to listen to it at night. It was a great read and starts off right away which was great. Highly recommend!!

This was a really different one. I didn’t know who to trust and who to believe. The writing was great and it really did portray the sense of fear. During the section our main character was hidden I really did feel that fear.
I did find some of it a little predictable, but this did not stop my enjoyment in reading it.
I can’t put my finger on why, but I didn’t find myself hooked and wanting to pick it up. I normally finish a book within 3 days and this took me a week. I don’t know if it is the book or just a slump as like I say, I did enjoy it and have no complaints. Just didn’t find myself reaching for it like I normally would.
