My 5yo picked this book out because of the dragon on the cover. It’s the first Magic Treehouse book either of us have read. He didn’t completely understand it, but he was definitely engaged with it and remembered a lot of details between readings, to my surprise! We learned about haiku, samurais, sushi, sumo wrestling, shadow puppets and a little historical background about the city of Edo during the 17th Century.

Very nice visit to 17th century Japan. I want to learn more about Basho myself now!

My son bought a bunch of these at a garage sale after his teacher had read them at school. I hve been reading thwm to him and I am impressed. I thought it would be a little boring to me but I love the idea behind it, the history and little facts. I enjoyed reading this book to him.

This was my first Magic Tree House book (but not my daughter's - she filled me in on the back story). It was a lot of fun to read a few chapters at bedtime the last few nights. I'm looking forward to reading more with her.

It's nice that Jack and Annie get to stay later at some places before going home. I am happy that they also got to experience a little more of the culture that is Japan and eat Sushi. Who doesn't love sushi? Can't wait to hang out with Leonardo.
