A solid book at times though my attention drifted.

Disappointed by this 'tome' of the scarpetta series. It seemed like the book was written by two people. One descriptive to the point of pain (yes, we know that the damned building is shaped like a bullet) and the other one forgot the golden rule of show, not tell (other people described it as the kill shack, but give us some description). I understand that details can unfold as the character herself discovers them but the ending of the book was just confusing; not clever.

I'm finally marking this as "read" because I finally confirmed that I've actually read the whole thing. I finished it back in mid-March, but the ending was so abrupt, I thought there was something wrong with the ebook I downloaded from the library. But, I was in the bookstore over the weekend, where I checked the hard copy and realized that really was the end.

I'm giving this 2 stars mostly for the ending. I felt plot was unresolved. I also felt there was way too much backstory. I know this is a series, but to my recollection, it's been a long time since one of the characters had appeared, and I was expected to remember way too much about him.

A few Scarpetta books ago, I thought I would quit the series because I was getting so irritated that all the characters seemed to hate each other - I felt like they should quit the series, too! In the last book, things seemed to get better. This time, they were on their way back to the snapish behavior and I really do think this will be my last Scarpetta!
