The first time I read The Hobbit, I hated it immensely. I could not get through it and had to force myself to finish. Yet something changed this time.
I enjoyed reading this story so much more this time around. The plot was fascinating, I enjoyed the writing and it just felt like such a cozy little story. I really enjoyed the adventure and had a fun time.
I can't give this a perfect rating because there were times that I was a bit bored, and I think that it is a bit lacking (with its complete absence of any female characters). Though I liked a lot of the characters, another complaint is that I just didn't feel that connected to any of them on a more personal 'deep' level, like I do with some of Sanderson's characters.
Overall though, I would highly recommend this story, especially to pre-teens / children, although many adults will probably greatly enjoy this too.

Hi, my name is Melissa, and I read The Hobbit for the first time at 29 years old.
And what an adventure it was. I have always been leery about reading Tolkien, because I’m not good with high fantasy or complicated worlds. (I know it gets worse than this!) The Hobbit was a great start. Even though I’ve never read it before, it made me nostalgic for my childhood. I read a lot as a kid, as I was frequently by myself, and I have a feeling that The Hobbit would really have been a great book for me.
Thank you to Ashley (@busy.book.bee) for finally making me read this! I can’t wait to discuss it with everyone at the end of the month.
