I really liked these two characters. I loved Griz’s interactions with Clementine. But I didn’t like how Hattie was considered a self-confident person and then the whole book she’s super self-consious. I get that her family brought her down a bit, but she was even unconfident when she was alone with Griz and I felt like that was a disservice to her character.
I’m not super interested in the other two books, so I might not continue this series. We’ll see.

Second read-through in a year? I don’t think I’ve ever done that before! On the second read, I enjoyed this book even more. The first time I read it was out of sequence—there are 2 books & 2 short stories (available to newsletter subscribers) that come before this novel. While it can be read as a stand-alone, Griz and Hattie both have significant roles to play in earlier books. I love these stories, and can’t wait to read Canuck’s story!
