Honestly I would bet a LOT of money that the author probably binge watched Drive to Survive saw the drivers, skimmed the Wikipedia, and that was the only research done. Tattooed Jax basically modeled after tattooed Daniel Riccardo, German Liam is a younger version of German Sebastian Vettel or maybe Nico Hulkenberg, crimson Baldini is red Ferrari, etc. The very least maybe watch F1 for 1 year, watch the highlights and interviews, then write this book and publish it.
The writing was not good. The writing from the POV of the Spanish female main character is written as if she was American; which makes no sense at all. Also in what world and time can you describe A SPANISH WOMAN AND THE CITY OF MELBOURNE ‘EXOTIC’??? I almost DNFed right then and there.
The plot? I mean not much. Honestly it should probably only be a 50,000 word story. A lot of padding dragging the overall story. The 🌶, frankly AO3 authors can do so much better.
The funniest thing about this book is how the drivers talk to each other. They call each other ‘bro’ and not what it should be, ‘mate’. If you have a chance to spend a few weekends to watch some F1 interviews, you hear it over and over again.
I almost DNFed multiple times but I had to finish it for the sake of being able to say that I finished the book to write this review. There are so many more things I want to say but I’ll just rant it to my sister. Basically booktok lied to me and I don’t trust them anymore.
