not really sure what i was expecting when i first started this series but after completing this book, it made me want to start watching F1.

this was a fun read with forbidden romance, brother's rival, close proximity tropes. and i ate it all up.

[T]he most beautiful thing about her is how her eyes light up with happiness when she grins, an infectious smile.

maya alatorre is sweet, too patient, and kind. she is always so supportive of her brother's F1 career — even if it outshone hers — she rooted for him all the way and didn't hold grudges against him. she's as unproblematic as they come. not only that, she knows exactly what she wants and isn't afraid to say or do what she needed to achieve it. she's also emotionally intelligent and willing to set clear boundaries from the start, like she knew she couldn't do a FwB type of relationship with noah and turned him down, despite how much it hurt her at the time. very impressive.

Looks like I went to hell and back, scoring an angel along the way.

noah slade is your typical competitive, F1 "American Prince" driver. a damaged bad boy womanizer with a horrible upbringing — who secretly has a heart of gold and a romantic — and was always ready to man up for the woman he loves. i am still so impressed at the character growth he went through in the book. the man literally went to therapy to better himself to try and be even half the man deserving of maya's love. he worked so hard, truly redeeming himself.

“Maya?” his voice rasps.
“Yup?”
“Keep talking. I love hearing your voice.”

noah and maya's relationship was sweet and spicy. their chemistry… explosive . it started off as insta-lusty, but developed into something so deeply beautiful. some of the scenes made me swoon so hard, smiling like an idiot. they were always supporting and encouraging each other to strive and be the best. and the communication these two partook in and owning up to their own mistakes and shortcomings? *chefs kiss* like their overall relationship, the spicy scenes were sweet and spicy. just how i like it.

the reasons why it isn't rated higher is because the overall conflict and resolution fell flat to me. it was lackluster. i would've liked to see more drama. also, there was some cringey dialogues here and there, but that wasn't that big a deal for me.

Do I Know too much about formula 1 to like this?

Let me start here. I LOVE a raunchy romance. And after watching Drive to Survive, I started to love Formula 1 too. So I figured, this must be a match made in heaven. And while it was decent, I felt like I just couldn’t get around to liking or loving it.

I have so much knowledge of F1 that while the details were thorough (albeit sometimes incorrect), it felt so tedious to read about what that world is like, when  I already know thanks to having already been exposed to F1. I also felt like it was really difficult to not automatically compare the real life drivers because their fictional counterparts are so similar. For example - you can’t tell me that Santiago Alatorre isn’t basically Carlos Sainz. And I feel like that really took away from my reading experience because this felt less like a book with original characters, and more like an F1 fan fiction. And if you’re reading fan fiction you don’t need as much detail about the world of F1.

It wasn’t until the Maya/Noah story really started that I felt like I was getting anywhere when it came to enjoying this book. And their love story really only came about in the last 25% of the book and felt extremely rushed. I understand it was a slow burn, but for me it was too slow since their story was what I enjoyed about this book the most.

Overall, unlikely I’ll read any more of these

went in with low expectations that were definitely surpassed, i do take issue with the prevalent slut shaming that takes place within the book though. for such a cute romance and well connected couple, the negative attitudes towards women and men engaging casual sex really distracted from the overall vibe of the book :/

I mean the characters are diverse in terms of the fact that they’re all from different countries but I’m pretty sure they’re all white…

4.25

A very strong 4.25, I actually really liked the main characters and there relationship surprisingly was really healthy and sweet (also this is not erotica idk why its classed as that). I probably won't read the next book cause I really didn't like Sophie or Liam that much in this one to read from there pov and relationship but I may read jaxs book cause I quite liked him.

I’m not much of a sport romance girl, but this F1 backdrop was fun. With all the traveling and parties. I really liked Maya as a character, so well rounded and sweet/sassy. Noah’s character arch is what I always want from this archetype of MMC. Their chemistry was great. Though Noah’s parents can rot in hell.

Sports Romance, Player MMC, Mutual Pining, 3 🔥
