Read this for the first time in preparation for a reading that Elise and I are planning! It's pretty funny and quite modern-seeming, and I actually laughed out loud a number of times reading it. Should be a fun reading.

I loved how proper they all talk in this play. I highly recommend the audiobook it is far more enjoyable.

An elaborate farce. Really funny at times and its a play that is so trivial that I just laughed at how stupidly funny the characters were.

This is definitely a classic worth reading. I did not like all plays the same, and my favourite by far is The Importance of Being Earnest. However, there is something witty in all of them, and in some Wilde is pretty ironic in his own very funny way. 5 out of 5 stars

Salome - *3 stars*
I'm not sure if long monologues about what the moon looks like tonight are my thing. The play was delightfully greusome, but it rambled on a bit too much for my taste, and every character (except Herodias) felt the need to repeat themselves like they were talking to a particularly distracted person. Also, Herodias had the best lines- she's terse rather than lyrical and I think that suited Wilde's talents better.
Lady Windermere's Fan - *3.5 stars*
While I adored the concept and a lot of the lines (especially Mrs. Erlynnes in the final act), the play really dragged at most points, and only became truly interesting during the last act and a half.
The Importance of Being Earnest - *5 stars*
This one reads like a modern day play and the pacing and most of the lines were an absolute delight.

I could hardly understand anything or follow what was going on. Got really confused with the characters and who was who and involved with who. I need all the luck in the universe to pass the test when I go back to school. Good thing I only had to read it once.

Okay. So. Ratingwise this was a bit of a Rollercoaster.
I read Lady Windemeres Fan first and that one was am easy 5 star read! Then I went on to A Woman of no Importance which was like. Yeah sure. The sum still gets 5 stars even if that may have been a high four stars. Then An Ideal Husband... Yeah, that one didn't really do it for me. It was a three star read and I was like Well, going to be 4 stars on average BUT
The Importance of being Earnest was amazing. I laughed so much (it was very helpful not knowing anything about this beforehand so I had the wonderful experience of figuring out the stupidest (affectionate) plot I have ever read in my life. Truly wonderful. It was so good that even the addition of Salome which was... eh couldn't sway me from my rating. After all the title it The importance of being earnest *and other plays* riiiight
so, tldr:
5* for Lady Windemeres Fan
4* for A Woman of no Importance
3* for An Ideal Husband and Salome
And 5* with my highest recommendations for The Importance of being Earnest

I'm still not a huge Wilde fan but I enjoyed reading the plays Salome and A Woman of No Importance.
