Mara Garrett is a forensic archeologist who travels to countries to recover remains of American servicemembers. Her most recent assignment is finding a servicemember whose plane crashed in North Korea. With her team, Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), they locate the missing remains, as well as the plane. But all is not perfect, and Mara and another team member find an unexploded ordinance. When she realizes that this team member means to cause her harm, she runs into the forest away from their NK handlers, and ends up at the edge of the DMZ, arrested, and placed in prison for spying. Enter Curt Dominick, the US Attorney, recently on the cover of Time, and the requested person to retrieve Mara from a firing squad. Returning to the states Curt must place himself in front of Mara time and again as the plot to kill her gets increasingly unstable, and the mystery continues to heat up.
In the second book of the Evidence series, this story read even faster than the first. Curt and Mara ignore the sparks flying between each other as long as they can, and the snarky remarks back and forth are incendiary. Romantic Suspense at its best, Rachel Grant authors a steamy story that will melt your windows, and the lifelike scenarios where she places her MCs are interesting and filled with so much tension you’ll be sitting on the edge of your seat.

A really great, suspenseful read. Mara ended up in the hands of North Korea and was convinced she would be killed at gunpoint until she's saved at the last moment by AUSA Curt. Curt may have been her savior at that point but since he's also prosecuting her beloved uncle he isn't her guardian angel for long. As they make their way back across the country someone doesn't want Mara and Curt to make it to DC alive. As they learn to trust each other the upcoming trial and unwanted truths about the past threaten to tear them apart. Can Curt and Mara find happiness when they face death around every corner? I'm excited to continue the series!

This had a lot of explosions and political suspense with an underlying romance simmering amidst two people with their own agendas.
I found Mara to be an interesting heroine. She was strong in the face of chaos and took everything in stride. I wish we got to see her doing a bit more of her job because it sounds so interesting.
Curt came across as a competent prosecutor whose life is devoted to his job and achieving justice through the legal system. There were a few aspects of Curt that rubbed me the wrong way, but overall, he was good enough for Mara and had my ultimate approval.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was a good story. It was intriguing and gripping but by the end I think it got away too much. The story just ran in a bunch of directions but I was already tired and wanting a resolution.
I enjoyed the couple more in the first book. I did like the push and pull between Mara and Curt but at times I had my doubts. It was very insta-lovey. I also couldn't understand all of Mara's decisions & why she still believed her uncle was innocent. I rarely have this happen, but I just got a feeling while the story progressed that Curt and Mara would not last long term as a couple and it really took me out of it.
When I read these books I want to cheer for the couple but I felt like these two were different in a lot of ways. I also feel like Curt is married to his job and even though in the end he said he would leave it for her, I didn't believe it. Adding that sentence wasn't a balm to make me feel better. If he wants to be attorney general I just can't imagine him having much time to dedicate to his relationship. Even though he said he was changing because of meeting Mara, I can't picture him having a great work/life balance. I know Grant puts tidbits of previous characters throughout the series so I am curious to hear more about how they are doing in later books.
I will continue reading this series and would recommend it.
