This book could have been so much better without the rape scene. They destroyed the hole story. Killian wasn't likeable enough to make up for that....

OMG MY FIRST REVIEW OF THE YEAR====2.5 stars. (this one will haunt me to the grave)

****PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR THIS BOOK

I'm incredibly flabbergasted that I finished this. (thank you bookclub I guess?) I feel the need to preface that Dark romance is not my thing which is why I'm being lenient about a lot of things with this book. I also knew what I was getting into so I have no one to blame but myself.

The main character Glyndon is depressed and suicidal after the death of her best friend. So she keeps visiting the place where it happened. Enter Killian, satan's spawn and incredibly fascinated by Glyndon. The two become entangled (excellent idea right?) after a night filled with the most dubious consent on earth (IM NOT JUDGING BUT LIKE CMONNNNN).

"He looks like he's ready to wreak havoc for you, and believe me when I say that type of love is rare to find"

THANK GOD. MAY THIS LOVE NEVER FIND ME.

"They don't even know I've chosen medicine just so I can continue my fixation with seeing inside a living being without killing"

I know this one was supposed to be scary but a lot of the things he said were just so idiotic that I could not take him seriously.

The characters, the plot, the world building felt a little off to me. The 2.5 stars are simply because of entertainment value. This is not a short book and yet instead of DNFing it, I finished it. The petnames were absolutely terrible. If Killian ever says "baby" again it will be too soon.  Will I read more? Already picked up another from the series (the highest rated here, which fills me with anxiety for some reason). Am I a dark romance lover now? Absolutely not. I still feel queasy reading a lot of the scenes but I kind of really wanted to know what was going on and was so incredibly let down lol (but I still read it so RK you win)

By the end of the book there were so many plotholes that I figured since there are other books that it might continue with them? But it says stand alone so maybe not. Oh well.

Tropes:
Enemies to lovers
College
Inexperienced, stubborn and fierce FMC
Psychopath and obsessed MMC
Secret societies (along with mafia vibes)
He falls first and hard
The banter is pretty great with the famous English sarcasm 🥰

I like this audiobook, the narration is performed in dual by Sebastian York, Josie Minor, Aaron Shedlock, Wen Ross and Kylie Stewart.

My only issue with the book is the 2nd chapter and how it is treated all along the book.
It is basically SA and a particularly degrading one, it made me really uncomfortable, also because it is romanticized all along the book and no it is not.
