been tearing into and loving swedish workers literature - at what point did we go from hard socialist lit to the current literary landscape? i know that there are of course still great works out there but for a long time these were the dominating themes and now they...arent. read the first chapter and already found myself crying (if you've read any review I've ever written this isn't a surprise. idk I'm a crybaby) at the stark but empathetic storytelling and beautiful language. martinson is able to show the darkest parts of society without it ever feeling gratuitous or gross, just realistic and very perceptive. might be one of the best books about women I've ever read
