Really ended up loving this but DO NOT RECOMMEND the audiobook as it almost made me give up on the book completely. However, couldn’t give it 5 because Liam hurts my soul 😭

Loved the pacing and dragons, everything else was bad. Bad worldbuilding, barely has a plot, huge sagging middle issue, things happen just because the author wants them to, MC is super special for no (good) reason, school is dangerous for no (good) reason, I could go on. Ignoring technical issues, this book is the Frankenstein's monster of all the dystopian fantasy YA/NA bad Hunger Games clones from ten years ago. If you want more of the same, you will love this. If you don't wanna read the same book for the twenty-third time but with more sex and less logic, skip this. It's a global phenomenom all right...just in how phenomenal it is that this book is so popular and has such a high average star rating.

i would literally die for them. the story is so interesting but also doesn’t take a thing away from their love, they are so meant for each other 😝😝

Re-read; I honestly forgot how much I enjoyed this book. I love that it’s written how a normal 20yo thinks. Swears and all. And the slow burn… fuck it’s incredible. The foreshadowing having read it over again is amazing and prolific. Can’t believe I missed so much of it the first time. Just enough world-building to keep it interesting without being too overwhelming.

This may be one of my favorite books. I got lost in it and the outside world went away for a bit. Though I originally thought the enemies to lovers trope, love triangle, and the underdog rising up idea has been used time and again in fantasy books (thinking of ACOTAR and Hunger Games especially), Rebecca Yarros makes so many twists and turns with this story I was on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole time. She’s really good at world building and her writing style is so descriptive and effective - she’s one of those authors that is able to just articulate certain feelings or situations that are so relatable but you can never quite describe. This is my first Yarros book but now I’m wanting to read all of her work - she’s up there with my favorite authors now.
