Spoiler3.5 rounded down.

Honestly, it bothered me that Jenn kept alluded to a “terrible secret” and that secret ended up being her getting r**ed. The fact that it was treated as a dirty secret and not something she was the victim of really bothers me.

Other than that it was a decent and quick read.

1.5

This was another novel that was both too slow for it's own good and spent most of it's time waffling about not a lot, without the substance behind it to back it up. It starts slow, continues slow and then finally about three quarters of the way through takes several running leaps... except they felt frankly unbelievable and failed to save the novel.

The main character Jenn is overwhelmed with motherhood and a lot of pages are taken up describing how tired and fraught she is. There are some interludes with a mother's group she has joined and one of the mums has gone missing. Cue a lot of hand writing and amateur detective work from Jenn, which doesn't really lead anywhere. Then you get several shocking twist reveals that don't really make a lot of sense and the novel careens off in an unexpected, yet somewhat farcical direction.

It doesn't help that the main character just annoyed me. And you are stuck in her head a lot. There's a huge amount of repetition and it takes forever to get anywhere. The twists were admittedly unexpected, but that's because they were so left field that they didn't make a lot of sense. It's a twist for the sake of it, rather than adding anything cohesive to the story.

All in all, not one that I enjoyed.
