Trigger warning: A non-consensual kiss happens on page 272-273. This is not really addressed further in the book.
The story started slowly and with a surprising lack of emotion and neutral writing style considering the topic of grief but I kept going because the concept sounded interesting. I didn't warm up to Aidan at first but the passages from Chloe's perspective were very touching and relatable. iRachel was my favourite character, her passages were funny, sad, and interesting. There were also a few philosophical issues dealing with the sense of self, what it means to be human, etc.
Later in the book, Aidan's emotional and friendly personality came through more and more, and I started to like him. At the end I was crying, I did not like how it ended but the epilogue made me happy again.

Oh my! I absolutely loved this story from beginning to end. It was full of emotion and heartbreak. It made me laugh and cry. I would 100% recommend.

I bought this, because I was originally hoping that it would be about emails etc to help them cope after her death, like a technological version of PS I love you. Something I would personally do If I knew that a ticking time bomb in my head could go off at any minute.
Originally I didn’t buy into the robot thing at all, but it grew on me slightly, continuing your wife’s legacy so she can live on in a way really tugged at my heart strings.
I plan on reading this again at some point because I gave it 80% of my attention about 50% of the time.
An emotional but easy read.

Rachel and Aidan have been married for 18 years, are very much in love and have a 15 year old daughter Chloe. Life is busy - Rachel is a brilliant high-flying scientist while Aidan works for a recruitment consultancy. When Rachel dies suddenly, Aidan and Chloe are left devastated. But Rachel has a surprise for them - she and her colleague Luke at Telos Robotics has created a robot in the exact image of Rachel, with very sophisticated AI who has all Rachel's memories and has called it iRachel.
I loved this book - it is told from multiple viewpoints which I like. It is a story of life, death, grief and recovery. I don't want to give too much of the plot away by talking about it in detail here but it is a beautiful book which moved me to tears with it's depiction of grief. I enjoyed the technical descriptions of the AI technology - not too difficult to understand but not dumbed down either. Both heart-breaking and heart-warming, this is an unusual mix of science fiction and chick lit which I really enjoyed.
Thank you to Trapeze Books for my copy for the 12 Days of Christmas blog tour I am taking part in.

Just a beautiful story
This book and me hooked from the first page and crying by the end of the first chapter. It’s a book that stared up so many emotions and had me thinking about it when not reading it.
I have recommended it to friends and family. A must read.

This story was more captivating and compelling than I anticipated. I was several times on the brim of tears.
The topic of empathic robots with the ability to learn patterns is really fascinating. How far will technology get, will it ever be an addition to care takers for disabled people or the ones suffering of dementia? It's something intriguing and intimidating at the same time...

I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I picked up this novel. I was little dubious that it might be too scientific but despite one of the main characters being a robot it wasn’t. This robot was called iRachel and she ended up breaking my heart.
Rachel, wife of Aiden, mother of Chloe and one of the creators of iRachel dies suddenly and Aiden and Chloe are left trying to pick up the pieces of their lives. But their new life takes an unusual turn when they have to accept iRachel into their lives and keep this fact secret. They do so, with trepidation and despite the outrage that Rachel’s colleague Luke feels. Luke is a bit of an outcast, very heavy-handed but he has met his match with iRachel who is determined not to let him bully anybody. Especially her.
As they all start to adapt to their new situation you get to know each of them very well. You see their outward image to friends and colleagues but you also see their inner thoughts. iRachel has been left with her creator’s memories and regrets and helps both Aiden and Chloe cope with their emotions.
Parts of the novel made me laugh, I’m still smiling now at a scene concerning an apron. But much of the novel, especially the last few chapters had me in tears. At one point I couldn’t see the words on the page and had to stop reading.
It is extremely sad but it also shows acceptance. Chloe, especially, has to put her friends at ease when they use everyday phrases that wouldn’t usually mean a thing but could cause hurt in the wrong circumstances.
I liked all three of the main characters but it is iRachel who I liked the most. Her description of feeling her wanting something and the basic human life that she could not experience is one that will stay with me for some time.
I read the epilogue twice. Mainly to see how to made me feel after a break. On the second read I could see the hope come through, that life cold be rebuilt but the memories from the old life will always be there.
