I really liked the first three books of this series, but this last one was far worse than the rest. I stopped caring about Jessica Darling.

A 3.5, but I didn't feel compelled to round up. Regardless, this installment really did affect me. I got kind of upset towards the end, and I can't quite pinpoint why (not that the book was necessarily upsetting - just that Jessica was speaking uncomfortable truths and musings, I suppose? This is about flaws - the flaws in yourself, the flaws in your relationships - every detail under intense scrutiny).

Anyway. Forever. Whatever.

I loved this series when I was in high school. It’s interesting revisiting the series as an adult. I agree with many of the other reviews stating that Jessica Darling’s story shined in high school but didn’t translate well to college or life after college. While I still enjoyed the book, it wasn’t as good as the first 2 in the series. I’ll read the 5th book again but my expectations are low.

Originally read in September 2010. What I liked most about this book was how other characters came to the surface more. It's still told very much from inside Jessica's head, but Hope, Manda, Bethany, and Marin are pulled to the forefront. Maybe because Jessica is writing this notebook for Marcus, instead of recording her thoughts for herself. The overarching story of Jessica contemplating a major question from Marcus drags on a little too long as she overthinks it, but it's a good chance to see the other people in her life.

After complaining that book 3 fit too much time into too few pages, book 4 takes place over the course of an action packed week, and incorporates as much humor and poignancy as ever. Listened to this on audio, and it vastly improved the quality of my driving life.

To be clear...I DNF this book!! Jessica's attitude was becoming too much for me to handle. Maybe one day I'll pick it up and try again.

Definitely my least favorite of the series - I very nearly gave it up.
