This was such a good time, but not for Mel who was persuaded to accept a cupcake for their high school reunion. Angie and Tate are on board, but Mel has to confront her the bullies who made her life miserable in high school. But when the mean girl (nemesis) is found dead in the bathroom; all eyes are on Mel.

So I read all 3 of this author's cozy mystery series this summer, and I was most excited for this one, since I love baking. But it ended up being my least favorite of the 3, due to the current of fat-shaming running throughout. It was definitely a disappointment, since I really enjoyed the other 2 series.

I enjoyed the story on a fundamental level, but that is about it. To be honest, the mystery just wasn’t very compelling to me, but I also was intrigued to find out what happened in the end - so that’s something. Perhaps I would have given this book a three, but I didn’t think it was very well written. The dialogue was stilted and, quite frankly, awkward. The characters hugged so much it made me a bit uncomfortable, and although the characters are supposedly in their thirties they spoke as though they were about 12 years old. As a whole, the book just seemed rushed and unedited.

Another wonderful installment at Fairytale Cupcakes (though I do wish we spent more time at the cupcake shop. I love that Oz and Marty have kind of taken over running the shop, but I do miss the days when more of the story took place there, or maybe I just miss hearing about all the yummy cupcake flavors). High school is a hard time for many, and it really pained me for Mel to reminisce on how mean people were to her. It was unbelievable that people AS ADULTS would stick to their teenage prejudices for no good reasons! Poor Mel having to confront that and then be mixed up with another murder! I was truly stumped by this and shocked by the ending! I can't wait to continue this series (and hope to see more of Angie and Tate!)

I love this series! I predicted the killer pretty early though. It was still good and different from the others in the series.

This was one of my highly anticipated new releases this year and it certainly did not disappoint.

This is one of the first Cozy Mystery series that I binge read over the years and I never get tired of the stories or the characters.

Mel, Angie, and Tate were my first group of Cozy Characters that I wanted to be friends with. Whenever I read these books, its like coming back home and hanging out with old friends.

In this installment, cupcake bakers and bakery owners, Mel and Angie, are baking cupcakes and preparing for their high school reunion. However, Mel is doing so under protest. Mel did not have the best experiences in school as she was overweight and bullied terribly. Although, thinned down and successful, Mel is still terribly insecure. Mel soon finds out that time doesn't change everyone. The night of the reunion, things are just like high school. Her bullies are still there, holding court, and ready to bully her. The plot thickens when one of her tormentors is found dead and she is the prime suspect.

Determined to clear her name, Mel works with some unlikely people from her past. Together they are determined to find the killer and uncover secrets that may unravel a lot of lives. Some people are willing to do anything to keep their secrets, even kill for them.

I wasn't surprised really by the culprit, as I suspected them at one point throughout the story but it was still a shock at the reveal.

I love Angie and Tate as a married couple now and I really liked Mel and Joe's relationship in this book. I was never really Team Joe, always Team Martinez. And as odd as it may be to see Uncle Stan and Mel's mom together, it makes me happy that they are finding companionship at this time in their lives. I am not sure when book 12 is going to be released but I cannot wait for it, as there will be a lot going on from the way this one ended.

I had the audio version of this book narrated by Susan Boyce. Highly recommend.

Mel revisits her high school doubts and insecurities before catering her high school reunion. Mean Girl Cassidy seems to be keeping up with her Mean Girl ways, right up until she's murdered. Of course, Mel is implicated in the crime so the Bakery Crew have no choice but to find the real murderer to save Mel. This is a trope that's been done to death but we keep reading these books because they keep us entertained. This one included. Read it. You'll like it.
