I'm a little torn on this one because Colton is my favorite of the soldiers but I was disappointed in his character development. It just felt a little flat and too cartoon-y. It just needed more, it could have been so much more. Also, the motivation behind The Masters was hard to believe, I wasn't buying that they would immediately blame Colton and believe it was him enough to go to the lengths they did.

I love this cover!
Having always had a fascination with the Joker, I was really looking forward to this book.
Colton is a complete button pusher and instigator, and I love him for it!
Granted some things about burried emotions and not showing what you feel totally hit home, but hey what are childhood traumatic experiences for!
Shelly is amazing and strong and is totally not immune to getting her buttons pushed.

OK

I loved Adam Noble, The Psycho.  Then Nikki introduced us to Devon Brady, The Reaper.  I did not think anyone could top either of these two characters, but then we get Colton King, The Joker…easily my favorite of the Soldiers so far.

I was hooked on Colton and Shelley’s story.

I loved the beginning chapters where we are introduced to Colton when he is only 5 years old.

Someone is taking the jobs that are assigned to the Soldiers.  They are getting rid of their targets but leaving a mess behind, as well as some graffiti – “The Masters”.

We find out the Masters are three sisters, Shelley, Briony & Kate.  They all blame Colton’s father for what happened to their mother, but they also blame Colton for the blackmail messages they are now receiving, threatening to release videos of their mother.

Colton had never met Shelley or her sisters, but he did know their mother as she helped him when he was 13.

When the sisters realise Colton is not the one behind the blackmail messages they have been receiving, they start to work together to find out who is behind them.

It takes a while for Colton and Shelley to admit their feelings for each other, but when they eventually get there, they are amazing together.

One of the other things I loved about this book is that we got to meet not only Colton when he was younger, but the other Soldiers as well.  We got a little of how they meet and become friends.

I wished this book had an illustrated page to show Shelley’s art piece of her rendition of Colton.

I know Will's story is next.  Will I love him as much as I do Colton???
