A good chunk of this was hard for me to grasp. However, there were several essays, particularly the last one, that hit home for me. At its core, this book asks, what is most important to you in life vs what should be most important to you. Seneca recognizes the tragic reality of our brief existence but uses that to fuel his love for it and his desire to serve his fellow man.

I don’t think I am ready for Seneca. Unlike the other Stoics I’ve read, his sentences and thoughts run long and windy, they fee less practical and are more entwined with his present day, instead of being more generic teachings.
