The splendor of society life in turn-of-the-century (20th, that is) Manhattan is in full force in the 4th (and last?) book of the Luxe series. Plot twists get wilder and somehow more predictable, but it is all worth it to see how Penelope's bad behavior and Elizabeth's sad-eyed poor fortune is avenged. That said, the ending was disappointing mostly because it made me dislike my favorite character, Diana.
This is quite a delicious series for a girl who wants a modern-day version of the 19th century novel.
Appeals: fast-paced, exciting plot twists, extravagant descriptions of gowns and jewels. A few steamy scenes, but still PG-13.

This book tied up all the loose ends, but not at all in the way I expected.

So, this series started off with a lot of fun and ridiculously scandalous behavior, but this just seemed like a fairly half-assed conclusion where loose ends were hurriedly tied up.
There was a lot of potential with the Diana storyline, especially with her trying to join the military. Instead, it just felt like she gave up on that idea (although, really, the chances of her being able to fool the government into thinking she was a boy were slim, but still) pretty quickly. Plus, the way at the end when they actually have the opportunity to be together and Diana decides that the thing she's wanted for four entire books isn't really what she wants? Okay, I can see there being a gradual change of heart, but it seemed like a rather sudden turn-around of thinking.
Elizabeth's storyline also felt really rushed, and the Snowden thing was a disappointing outcome (plus, the sudden change to loving Teddy so much?). It seemed like a sudden change for Snowden's character, and honestly I was disappointed that she decided to turn him into a villain like that.
I don't know... Granted, these are teenagers we're talking about, and I remember changing my mind quite a bit as a teenager, but so much of this just rang false.
As for Carolina and Penelope, I still can't stand either of them, and really any outcome for them probably would have annoyed me. Their endings, also, felt super rushed.

Surprising ending actually, at first I was not a fan but in the epilogue, I came around. Great ending to a good series.
