First Omegaverse

This was a new genre for me, I’ve never read omegaverse before. I appreciated that the author included an introduction to the basics of the world at the beginning, since I was not familiar with this genre. Check the CWs in the beginning Author’s Note before reading. I didn’t totally know what to expect, but WOW. It is much more than a “why choose” romance. The most captivating part for me is the dystopian environment/political intrigue. I absolutely was absorbed in this story. The commentary on purity culture. The trauma and abuse that Josie has survived and is still processing. The support of her friends and pack. It’s heart wrenching, but also in ways healing as Josie starts learning to take back her power and reconnect with her brave and rebellious nature.

Major cliffhanger, immediately going to Part 2 now.

For such a long book the story dragged. I’m not sure I can finish this book then go on to read part 2. I found the FMC draining and whiny. I love a good OV story especially when it’s cozy and low angst. I feel like this book had too much crying and self deprecation. I understand that self love is a journey but the way the FMC was depicted in the beginning as head strong and forceful I was expecting someone more confident and self assured. Instead we get someone who cries at the drop of a hat. Every interaction with her alphas start with her crying and them reassuring her that they do care and find her attractive. This book definitely had potential to be great especially with the underlying government/political  issues, I just couldn’t get past the characters to continue reading to learn more.

3.5 Stars. I love the boys, but Josie’s insecurities often fall into the realm of whiny and that’s incredibly irritating after a while.

I absolutely adored and loved this book, when I say I couldn’t put it down, my husband had to remind me I need sleep, but I needed to finish it and start the part two. I started book one reading between calls at work and didn’t want to put it down when I got a call!! The writing style of the author is so amazing and I loved every second of this book and why chooses are always a favorite cause why choose when you can have them all, the cute fluffy scenes always make me kick my feet, and THE spice
