For such a long book the story dragged. I’m not sure I can finish this book then go on to read part 2. I found the FMC draining and whiny. I love a good OV story especially when it’s cozy and low angst. I feel like this book had too much crying and self deprecation. I understand that self love is a journey but the way the FMC was depicted in the beginning as head strong and forceful I was expecting someone more confident and self assured. Instead we get someone who cries at the drop of a hat. Every interaction with her alphas start with her crying and them reassuring her that they do care and find her attractive. This book definitely had potential to be great especially with the underlying government/political  issues, I just couldn’t get past the characters to continue reading to learn more.

This book was thrilling. It had me in a chokehold from start to finish. To be fair, you say omegaverse and I come running, and I’m fairly easy to please. But I loved fhe political landscape we for to experience and I’m excited to see where it goes.

A couple of things. The MFC has a lot of body dysmorphia due to neglect and verbal abuse, and an anxious attachment style ON TOP OF being an omega coming off heat suppressants for the first time. So some readers might see her a being super whiny and needy and annoying because she is constantly seeking reassurance from her alphas even when they’ve made it clear they want no one else.

Being a plus size woman with an anxious attachment style myself, I felt so seen lol. I am Josie without the whole Designation Center trauma and abusive family bit 😂 so. However I think Ms. Emerson wrote her panic attack scenes so well. I think a lot of people who haven’t experienced this would understand this type of person a lot more after reading these scenes.

The story did plateau for me right about the 65%-80% mark. There was a lot of character development and definitely some big plot points, but the action was pretty low compared to the beginning other book. However it ramped right back up at the end. And that section of the book was still a delight 🥵 to read.

Summary
Josie has been through things most people can't even imagine and she's given up hope of being able to find a pack with love. Cam, Ben, and Theo have given up finding an omega for their pack in part due to how horrible omegas are treated by society. When they're paired together by the resistance, they both may have found what they're looking for.

Thoughts
The best omegaverse I've read in a while in terms of overall storytelling. This book was very dark, but there's something about the writing and the characters that kept me hooked. I adored the way the guys always put Josie's feelings ahead of their own and they spent as much time as needed to make her feel secure. The overarching plot about the government and the resistance's fight against it was very detailed and seamlessly integrated. What a crazy cliffhanger though.

FMM, omegaverse, Why Choose?, explicit, plus size heroine, trauma, nesting, knotting, cliffhanger

I wonder if it's been a minute since I read this book or where I've been rewatching the Hunger Games trilogy while working on my reviews. Still, this duet reminds me a lot of Mockingjay, where they fought the government, but it's very loosely compared. Plus, I loved learning about how different these two regions were and how if they were just on the other side, they wouldn't have been in as much danger, but due to Josie, they could never get over there legally. But honestly, looking back, I only remember a little of this duet. I read it back in July, and I'm working on this post in November. It's one of those things that I just can't remember anything about. I overrated this one, but at the same time, I have to go with my ratings since I can't remember anything, and she apparently did.
