i realized that this book has a second part and then also a sequel and although the book is good and i enjoyed reading it, i couldn’t find it in myself to be excited to read all of them. all together it’s about 1,600 pages.

I wonder if it's been a minute since I read this book or where I've been rewatching the Hunger Games trilogy while working on my reviews. Still, this duet reminds me a lot of Mockingjay, where they fought the government, but it's very loosely compared. Plus, I loved learning about how different these two regions were and how if they were just on the other side, they wouldn't have been in as much danger, but due to Josie, they could never get over there legally. But honestly, looking back, I only remember a little of this duet. I read it back in July, and I'm working on this post in November. It's one of those things that I just can't remember anything about. I overrated this one, but at the same time, I have to go with my ratings since I can't remember anything, and she apparently did.

You know ....I downloaded this book seeing a small passage on TikTok. I managed to read a 500 some page novel in under 24 hours.

This book at times reads very Wattpad-y and could have used another edit or two for being so repetitive, like we get it Josie has self-esteem issues, but beyond that it's a really solid romance book with a sci-fi/dystopian subplot that kept me glued to my seat.

Onto the next one!

I’m all for mental health discussions/struggles in books but the author’s word choices surrounding her body issues made me v uncomfortable; I also feel like their backstories came out in big trauma dumps rather than naturally revealing.
The beginning called this book cozy and I definitely do not agree with that. I was stressing from beginning to end.

This is all sort of just thinly veiled allegory for the current american political climate…
I wasn’t gonna read the second one and I haven’t decided if I am, but the (very predictable) ending stressed me out so fuckin much I might need to
