This is a sweet bedtime storybook. The text is minimal and follows a rhythmic flow. The illustrations can be understood quickly, but if you linger over them longer you can pick up subtle details. I could see this being a book that children might enjoy having read to them over and over again.

This is a beautiful and simple bedtime story. The best part, in my opinion, is the page where it says "Here is the key to the house" and it shows the mother kissing her sleeping child. Maybe I'm looking too deep into it, but I think the key is love. And because the house is filled with love, it is also a "home full of light."

A nice, quiet cummaltive tale. It would make a good bedtime story. It is very simple. It won this year's Caldecott Medal. I'm not sure if it would have been my pick but it is what it is!

A circular, cummulative, quiet nighttime story. I'm not sure it will work in my Baby/Toddler program, but I might try it because of the illustrations

I love this children's book so much. I think what makes this book different than other books that might have the same theme is the unique illustrations Krommes uses and choice of colors. It is black and white with occasional yellow objects that appear to be glowing. AND it is all about the magic of reading. Double win.
