Weird, surreal, sensual, sexual--this was a pretty fun read though there was little plot to speak of, few if any convos documented, this was a superficial book that explored feelings and ideas but remained vague, even to our main characters.

The pregnancy and childbirth were weird. The ending where our governesses disappear was also weird.

Weird. Weird, weird!

what a weird, abstract little book. a slim, vivid exploration of lust and confinement and the male gaze. i sometimes found the prose grating — it’s simultaneously detached and wide in its scope, which was sometimes fun to read from and sometimes quite irritating. there was almost nothing in the way of plot or character here; this novel is much more about themes and imagery. which is fine, but personally I feel like I need well-developed characters or a fascinating plot to actually connect to a text. this book was fine, and it certainly was unique, but sadly it wasn’t a fave
