One of the best thrillers I have read in a long time. I read this way later than I should have when I really needed the rest for a busy day at the hospital!
Harry Hole, the anti-hero, is the tragic cop figure I'm always attracted to in these type of mystery/thrillers. He's so devoted to solving the crime, at his own expense. His love/obsession with Rakel is also the bittersweet tragedy that keeps me coming back hoping for a happy ending. I'm anxiously awaiting the translation of the next book in the series and will have to go back and read his earlier works.
I'm totally loving these Scandinavian writers. Translate more please!

I think this is my favorite in the series so far! The Snowman still contains all the things I love about a Jo Nesbo novel: complex plots woven together seamlessly, well-constructed, complex characters, and really interesting facts (scleroderma, Norwegian trivia, paternity testing, etc.). But what I truly loved about this is Harry's growing compassion and how Nesbo gives the reader a closer look into Harry's humanity and personal growth. Up next: The Leopard!

A good friend recommended this book to me whose opinion I respect. While I admit I do not enjoy reading about serial killers, I still could not enjoy the story at all. Perhaps, to be fair, I should read the beginning of the series. I did not know I was jumping into book 7.

A good mystery--kept me guessing all the way through, and I still don't know quite what to make of the last scene.

I would say more like a 3.75
I was itching for some Nordic Noir and I had a pile of Nesbo’s books at home that I hadn’t read yet. So I decided to pick up the next installment in the Harry Hole series from the last one I read a while ago and I’m glad I did.
Every time I thought I had it all figured out, it turned out I hadn’t! Exactly what I want from this type of book.
The way he writes women can definitely be improved though - it gives big “I live in my mum’s basement” vibes at times.

Pretty good crime thriller, nice to read something set in Norway as well for a change. It's the first Jo Nesbo book I've read, and I'll certainly read more of his as and when I come across them. The whole advertising any Scandinavian writer as the next Stieg Larsson is a wee bit tired, and does almost put you off trying new writers - don't get me wrong, I liked the millenium trilogy, but I don't see why every other writer from Scandinavia should be compared to him as if they don't have their own styles.
This is a very typical thriller of Scandinavia - the murderer is referred to as the snowman, and Norway's got enough snow for it. I don't know how far through the series it is, the detective being hard drinking messed up Harry Hole. And it's your standard crime thriller, a good one never the less, but the usual line up of red herrings, addictive reading, thankfully no over-the-top confession by the killer at the end; but otherwise usual stuff. And I hate to say it, but as soon as the killer put his/her face into the story, I realised it was going to be them. I don't want to be smug... probably just read too many of these books!

The Snowman started out very slowly for me. Initially there seemed to be too many disparate pieces without connection. After starting to read it on three separate occasions, I decided to stick it out and am extremely glad. The author ties up the pieces and builds a credible police procedural/thriller. Harry Hole is a compelling lead character and I'll definitely read more Harry Hole books as soon as possible.

If I had more time to devote to reading this month I would have finished this book MUCH faster. I was hooked quickly and surprised many times. Definitely suggest reading this one. I'm not sure yet if I will read others in the series or not (only because my "to read" list is already too long), but it's a definite possibility.
